Stormshield announces that it has achieved TEMPEST classification, a NATO-recognised standard for the control of electromagnetic emissions in sensitive environments.

TEMPEST classification: a guarantee of security for ultra-sensitive data

Stormshield has been awarded TEMPEST level B classification by ANSSI, in accordance with the NATO SDIP-27/3 standard, for its SN-XS-Series, SN-S-Series and SN-M-Series enclosures. These pieces of equipment have undergone rigorous testing covering the entire system, not just their components.

TEMPEST is an acronym for a set of standards developed by the US National Security Agency (NSA) and recognised by NATO.

The firewall devices are subject to the TEMPEST standard assessment, designed to protect national information systems against unauthorised interception. This protection is ensured by reducing electromagnetic and acoustic signals, and also other unintentional emissions generated by the equipment.

The aim of the TEMPEST classification is to prevent and mitigate the risks inherent in compromising the electromagnetic emanations of electronic equipment. Such emanations can be exploited to gather sensitive information, a technique known as side-channel attacks. In practical terms, an attacker could use the electromagnetic waves emitted by a firewall to recover all the data passing through it.

It is therefore essential for projects in the defence, government, and critical infrastructure sectors handling ultra-sensitive data to use enclosures which have obtained this classification.

Stormshield: a historic and strategic player in cybersecurity for the defence sector

Stormshield has established itself over many years as a key partner and major player in the field of defence and national security. Its commitment to this sector is based on recognised expertise and an acute understanding of the challenges of sovereignty and critical infrastructure protection.

Given the current geopolitical context, marked by an intensification of cyber threats targeting defence organisations and supranational institutions, Stormshield has taken the strategic decision to accelerate its development and investment in this area in 2026. This drive towards faster action is in response to the need to strengthen the cyber resilience of its defence partners in the face of increasingly sophisticated and persistent threats.

To achieve this ambition, Stormshield has strengthened its defence-specific operational structure. The recent creation of the post of Defence Business Developer is a practical illustration of this approach. This new role will support and energise Stormshield's well-established Defence Business Line, ensuring better coverage and targeted expertise to meet the specific needs of this sector.

Stormshield’s cybersecurity solutions are not only developed to the highest security standards, but have also received the required certification to operate in the highly sensitive defence environment. In particular, the solutions are certified EU Restricted and NATO Restricted. These certifications attest to their ability to provide robust, reliable protection for the classified and sensitive information of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) and the institutions of the European Union, ensuring the confidentiality, integrity and availability of critical data. This strengthens Stormshield’s credentials as a trusted partner for securing the most strategic information systems.
